Facebook is planning to integrate WhatsApp, Instagran and Facebook Messenger apps according to a report by NYT.
As per reports, the project is a personal pet of the Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.
While all three apps will remain standalone the integration would be at a deeper layer that will allow users to communicate across apps. E.g. a WhatsApp user can send a message to someone who only has an Instagram account.
The project is expected to be completed by end of 2019.
A Facebook statement stated, ” We want to build the best messaging experiences we can; and people want messaging to be fast, simple, reliable and private.”
The planned integration will definitely require the Facebook engineers to reconfigure the core of WhatsApp, Instagra, and Facebook Messenger as currently they have no inter-communication.
Reportedly, the reconfigured core will also include end-to-end encryption, however, it is not known yet if Facebook will have a peek in the encryption messages to mine data for targeted advertisements.
